Throw back news: pundit sends a brilliant Liel Abada and Ange Postecoglou message after Celtic beat Buckie Thistle

Liel Abada returned to action for Celtic in style on Sunday as Brendan Rodgers watched his players ease to a 5-0 win over Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

Despite Celtic coming up against a Highland League side, the team put out by the manager was pretty strong, with only Callum McGregor, Cameron Carter-Vickers and the Asian Cup players missing.

One of the names returning to the starting XI was Liel Abada and his performance certainly impressed Leanne Crichton.

The former Scotland international stated that the 22-year-old produced a performance that was a ‘throwback to the days of Ange Postecoglou’, as she told BBC Sport.

Liel Abada didn’t get on the scoresheet, but he did provide Kyogo Furuhashi with his goal as the Celtic winger proved to be a constant threat to the opposition.

These were some much-needed minutes for the player and great news for Celtic that such a key player will now be available for the crunch moments of the campaign.

Albeit his latest performance was against a lower league side, if he can be his ‘old self again’ going forward, then that starting spot is his.

“Abada’s been really lively,” said Crichton. “It’s a throwback to the days of Ange Postecoglou watching him today. He produces constantly.

“Liel Abada looks like his old self again. He’s such a threat and he is so difficult to defend against.”

Nicolas Kuhn signs for Celtic

Not many expected it because it wasn’t a position that was screaming out to be added to, but winger Nicolas Kuhn did sign this month.

But with the new face in the building, added with Daizen Maeda, who is currently with Japan at the Asian Cup, also floating above and someone like Rocco Vata scoring from the bench.

It all leaves Rodgers with a much-needed headache as to who he is going to select regularly going forward.
