Investors could get cheaper Everton takeover with relegation – Finance Expert

It comes after Everton shared that other options and funding were on the table if 777 Partners dropped out of their agreed takeover of the club this season.

The finance expert admitted that was a positive from Goodison Park, although staying in the Premier League is critical to the finances and cash flow of the club.

“The positive side of that is that the club are saying if it isn’t 777, there are other parties at the table, there is still a takeover to be done which needs to happen, that all sounds positive.

“The reality of that is it needs to happen at some point, there has to be something agreed there, and a lot is going on behind the scenes that has to be taken into account.

“The interesting aspect of Premier League survival is that it can be spun both ways, for the club it is great if they retain their Premier League status, which is critical to the finances and the cash flow of the organisation moving forward. From an investor point of view, it’s good that you are buying into a Premier League club, but you could imagine the other side of the scenario where if they are in the Championship, it’s a cheaper acquisition.

“I do think investors keep their cards close to their chest at times and we have to remember the business element of that.

“There are a lot of positives and the club needs to be in the Premier League, but you can imagine investors are also looking at it thinking they may get a cheaper acquisition price if the worst happens and that may be stalling things with other parties as well.”
