Charles Barkley questions Adam Silver on NBA’s plan to address domestic violence incidents involving players

In the lead-up to opening night of the 2023-24 NBA season, the TNT crew of Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith welcomed Commissioner Adam Silver to the program to touch on a variety of topics pertaining to the upcoming year.

As Silver’s time on the show wound down, Barkley seemingly went off script, ignoring an impending commercial break to make it a point to ask the commissioner about recent incidents of domestic violence involving NBA players.

“I got a serious question for you,” Barkley began. “There are a couple of disturbing incidents of domestic violence in the NBA right now. What are we doing to address that?”

Silver, who began by acknowledging that NBA is one of a number of professional sports leagues looking to address the issue of intimate partner violence (IPV), informed Barkley that “we put in place a new program for how we deal with accusations of domestic violence even before they’re prosecuted.
