Szoboszlai details Reds’ half-time turnaround as star “relieved” to be hooked
Liverpool needed two goals in the last 10 minutes to see off Wolves at the weekend as they kept pace at the top thanks to some half-time tweaks by Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool kept pace with Manchester City at the top after seeing off Wolves at the weekend.
The Reds picked up their fourth successive win at Molineux despite a poor first half with Cody Gakpo and Andy Robertson both getting on the scoresheet. Jurgen Klopp’s side will begin their Europa League campaign this week when they head to Austria.
Their fixture woes have been eased by a clash with West Ham on Sunday, giving them more time to recover, with Klopp previously airing his frustrations at short turnarounds. Liverpool hadn’t endured a year outside the Champions League since 2017, but are now paying the price for a poor season last time out.

Half-time changes detailed
Dominik Szoboszlai has detailed the advice Liverpool were given at half-time at Molineux which helped them turnaround another losing position. The Reds were second best for much of the first-half before they scored three times after Klopp had made some key switches.
The Hungarian said: “At half-time the manager talked to us about the passion and what we needed in the second half, the work and what we needed to put into the game. I think we switched the formation and then everybody did their job and we turned the game.”
Liverpool have come from behind to win at Newcastle already this season and whilst their fight backs are a credit to the squad, they’d rather not concede first.
“I think everyone would be even happier if we were not 1-0 down,” he said. “But if we like to win like this then let’s continue, but let’s win at the end of the day, always.”
Mac Allister “relieved” to be hooked
Alexis Mac Allister has confessed that he found it challenging to play for Liverpool during their win over Wolves given it came so soon after returning from international duty.
Klopp said the Argentina star was “relieved” to be taken off at half-time with the team 1-0 down as he continued to give away possession. Mac Allister had been seen breathing from an oxygen tube in the early hours of Wednesday morning having played for the world champions in a 3-0 win over Bolivia in La Paz.
The city’s Estadio Hernando Siles venue is situated at extremely high altitude, with players frequently known to have suffered when playing there.
Reds in three-way battle for Salzburg youngster
Liverpool are among three clubs tracking the progress of RB Salzburg starlet Oscar Gloukh with Arsenal and Manchester United also keen.
The 19-year-old has impressed for the Austrian side since following his £6m move from Maccabi Tel Aviv in January. Gloukh scored eight times and provided 10 assists in 40 appearances last season and has already come up with a further three goal contributions for Salzburg this time around.
He also impressed for Israel on international duty. The attacking midfielder scored in a 1-1 stalemate in Romania, before helping his nation to a 1-0 victory over Belarus to boost their chances of qualifying for Euro 2024.
