Liverpool defender says Klopp sold a player who was tough to mark in training

Billy Koumetio has named former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino as his hardest attacker to face in training.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the youngster revealed that the Brazilian international was a difficult player to defend against, with Firmino leaving Anfield this summer at the end of his contract.

A cult hero on Merseyside, the forward was one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players as Firmino led Liverpool to a Premier League and UEFA Champions League title.

And Koumetio has now named the forward as his hardest attacking opponent yet since moving to Liverpool, even above the likes of Mohamed Salah and former winger Sadio Mane.

Koumetio said on what it was like to defend Firmino in training: “The forward who is the biggest headache is Bobby (Firmino)! Bobby is so difficult to defend.

“He can go any direction. He can do any kind of pass. Sometimes he was doing things that you can not even imagine. He does something crazy and you are like, ‘Wow!’”

Firmino arguably still had more left in the tank for a top Premier League side having left Liverpool this summer for free, with the attacker still good enough to compete against the best.

The former Bundesliga forward clicked at the right time for Liverpool no matter who he was partnered with in the front-line, and Firmino could have done a job for the Reds this season.

Whilst a good argument can be made that this summer was the right time to leave, Firmino could have still done an impressive amount of work for Liverpool this campaign, especially with Mohamed Salah still at the club.
