Asked around’: Journalist shares what Tottenham fans have ‘twisted’ about Levy-Dier meeting
Alasdair Gold says Eric Dier was the one called into a meeting by Daniel Levy at Tottenham Hotspur, not the other way around.
The Football London journalist shared that some things have been ‘twisted’ about Eric Dier’s recent meeting with the Tottenham chairman.
It has been made clear that the Tottenham centre-back didn’t go ‘around Ange Postecoglou’ and straight to Daniel Levy in order to talk about his future, as he told his own YouTube channel.
The 29-year-old hasn’t featured in a single matchday squad for Spurs this season, despite being a regular during previous campaigns – it has also been claimed that he isn’t quick enough for this new attack-minded Spurs style of play.
That lack of game time has cost Dier his England place, and with Cristian Romero being called the best defender in the world by Lionel Messi and summer signing, Micky van de Ven, settling in brilliantly, then it only makes matters worse for the frozen-out star.
Either way, amongst all of this, a meeting was called between Levy and Dier recently, but Gold shared that it hasn’t been reported like it actually panned out.

“The Eric Dier and Daniel Levy stuff,” said Gold. “That was a bit weird. A report that came out, which was ever so slightly altered or a few reports that came out.
“From what I understand, Eric Dier was the one who was called into a meeting by Daniel Levy. I presume that was in their efforts to try and get him out of the door before various windows closed. That kind of twisted slightly into how fans saw that.
“They saw that as Eric Dier going around to Ange Postecoglout to talk to Daniel Levy about his future. And having asked around, asking people around Eric Dier, asking people from within the club. Everything. It kind of very much feels like it was the other way around.
“Spurs were trying to find some kind of solution to the Eric Dier situation right now. And clearly, they couldn’t find one. He would have questions about his future, like any player who hasn’t been playing for a manager would.
“But this idea that he went around Postecoglou to talk to Levy isn’t the way it happened.”
It seems as though Postecoglou has made his mind up, but surely Dier knew that before the 2023 summer transfer window slammed shut.
Whether or not he attempted to leave we will never know, but the fact of the matter is that he is still at the club and not even making the bench, never mind actually coming onto the pitch.
It has gone full 360 degrees for the player, who now seems to find himself in a far worse situation than his fellow countryman, Harry Maguire, over at Manchester United.
