Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernandez have both labelled Cristian Romero as the best centre-back in the world after the Tottenham man delivered a battling display to help Argentina emerge victorious over Ecuador.

Messi, who netted the match-winner for the World Champions on 78th-minute with a perfectly-placed free-kick, labelled the Spurs star’s performance as ‘amazing’.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner told Telemundo: “For me, he [Cuti Romero] is the best defender in the world right now. Amazing performance tonight, man of the match.”
Midfielder Enzo Fernandez also agreed with Messi’s assertion, with the Chelsea star commenting the following on Romero’s Instagram post: “The best central in the world.”
