Report: Tottenham’s offer for centre-back has been turned down  – Spurs Web – Tottenham Hotspur Football News

Journalist Fernando Esquivel has revealed that Tottenham’s offer for Sebastian Caceres has been turned down by Club America but the North London club are expected to try again for the centre-back.

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Spurs are prioritizing signing a central defender in January, with Caceres said to be among the names at the top of the wishlist (90 min).

It has been suggested that scouts from the Premier League have watched the 24-year-old in action for Uruguay and have been left mightily impressed by his displays (Football Insider).

Tottenham’s offer turned down for Cacares
According to Esquivel’s latest update, Spurs offered £3m plus a percentage as a sell-on clause for the defender but Club America turned down the bid.

It is explained that the Mexican side value Caceres at around £7m but would be willing to accept £5m plus the proposed sell-on clause

The journalist adds that Tottenham remain in contact over a deal and are expected to make another approach shortly.

Given the fees being mooted, this will be a relatively risk-free transfer for Tottenham, who will not lose much even if Caceres fails to adapt to the Premier League. So, perhaps the Lilywhites view it as a gamble worth taking.
