Pundit warns Tottenham’s rivals not to forget about £16m star

Janusz Michallik has hailed Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur as a “tremendous player”.

Rodrigo Bentancur is still recovering from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he sustained last season, but Michallik, speaking on ESPN, has warned that the 26-year-old is not someone people can forget about because of how good he is.

What exactly has Janusz Michallik said about Rodrigo Bentancur?

On Bentancur, the former USA international said: “Let’s not forget that they don’t have Bentancur, right. They missed him and he’s such a tremendous player. So when he comes back, he’s going to be an added player.”

The Uruguayan’s injury was a huge blow for Tottenham last season. He was a key player for the north London club, scoring goals for them from midfield.

In 18 Premier League appearances, Bentancur managed to find the back of the net on five occasions, which is pretty impressive for a player in his position.

He was also great at winning the ball back for Spurs, making 2.5 tackles per game (WhoScored). No other player who featured in more than one match for the English side recorded a higher average.

Rodrigo Bentancur’s return will be a huge boost for Tottenham

The above shows that Bentancur, who cost Tottenham around £16m plus add-ons, can be a great asset to Ange Postecoglou when he is back in the first-team picture.

Of course, it would be great if the Spurs boss had him now, but his midfield is currently getting the job done.

Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have played their part in the team’s great start to the season, with the latter even grabbing a goal in the 2-0 win against Manchester United.

The former, meanwhile, has managed to start all four of Tottenham’s Premier League games, which is a positive after an ankle injury disrupted his first campaign in north London.
