Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka reacts as James Maddison presents him with England’s Men’s Player of the Year award
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka was taken aback when Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison surprised him by presenting him with the England Men’s Player of the Year award on Tuesday.
Saka wins England’s Men’s Player of the Year award on his birthday
Club football is halted for a few weeks as the international games kick in, with England set to lock horns against Ukraine in a Euro 2024 qualifier and a so-called friendly against Scotland.
It has been another productive 12 months for the England team, with Bukayo Saka at the heart of the action once more for his country.
It was the 22-year-old’s birthday on Tuesday, and as a ‘surprise’, Tottenham playmaker and summer signing James Maddison presented a gift to the Arsenal star, with the box containing his award, as England posted on Twitter.
Saka didn’t expect it, but when he proceeded to open the gift and saw that it was the award for England’s Men’s Player of the Year inside, his response was ‘Nah, not on my birthday. Oh my gosh’.
“What are you up to,” asked the Arsenal winger to which the Tottenham star responded: “I am hearing it’s a very special day. It’s just a little present from us and EE. I will let you do the honours.”
Maddison: “For the second year running. Bukayo is the Men’s Player of the Year. Congratulations, brother. And Happy Birthday.”
Saka then opens the present and says: “First of all, thank you. Nah, not of my birthday, bro. Oh my Gosh
Another impressive 12 months for Saka
It has been a pretty impressive 12 months at club and international level for Saka, who came close to winning the Premier League title with Arsenal last season.
On both stages, it could be argued that Saka is getting closer to lifting silverware, as he is at the heart of the action, it’s just a case of that extra little stardust being needed.
Either way, he is deserving of this award because, at only 22, he is a key player for Arsenal and England.
