£300,000-a-week striker is not going to join Tottenham Hotspur now

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly about to miss out on the signing of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku to AS Roma.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window, but it appears that the Belgian is on his way to AS Roma now.

Tottenham Hotspur target Romelu Lukaku to leave Chelsea for AS Roma

Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Chelsea and Roma have agreed on a deal for Lukaku to move to the Serie A club on a loan deal.

The Belgian will travel to Rome on Tuesday and will then complete the move, according to the Italian journalist.

Calciomercato reported this month that Tottenham have held “preliminary contacts” over a move for the £300,000-a-week (ESPN) Lukaku.

Earlier this month, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reported on his website that Spurs are interested in the former Everton striker.

Now, it was always unlikely that Tottenham would be able to sign Lukaku this summer.

After all, Chelsea and Tottenham are bitter London rivals.

And both the Blues and Spurs are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

Chelsea surely would not send a player like Lukaku to Tottenham and make Spurs stronger.

We are not surprised to hear that Lukaku is on his way to Roma now.

The striker did well for Inter Milan during his time at the Italian club, and under former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, he could flourish at Roma.

Lukaku has made 278 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The striker has scored 121 goals and provided 35 assists in those matches.
