‘He was that bad’: Pundit tears into Tottenham player after win and says he’s now the weak link
Gabby Agbonlahor has called Richarlison the weak link in the new Tottenham Hotspur squad and claimed he performed poorly against Bournemouth at the weekend.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor suggested that if Harry Kane had been in charge instead of the Brazilian, Ange Postecoglou’s side would have won 5-0 at Vitality Stadium.Richarlison is definitely under pressure at the start of the campaign.
It doesn’t help that the departure of arguably the greatest player of all time gives him a chance to play regularly for Spurs.But there is no doubt that the 26-year-old has yet to take the plunge. It’s the opportunity he was said to have desperately sought when he moved to North London.
But he has not yet opened his account for Tottenham.Richarlison is seen as a weak link in the Tottenham sideOf course, Spurs are doing very well at the moment. You got off to a brilliant start in life under Postecoglou. And the Aussie has certainly managed to capture fans’ imaginations with the type of football on display.
However, Agbonlahor clearly believes something needs to be done about Richarlison after being replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the second half against the Cherries.”I look at Richarlison, he’s the weak link,” he told talkSPORT. “And I think you will need a better striker for the rest of the season. Harry Kane probably score a hat-trick today, win 5-0.“The chances that Richarlison had, that he took, had too many touches and his blocking game wasn’t right. It got to the point that Ange had to replace him after 55 minutes because he kept giving the ball away.
And you didn’t even have a striker to recruit.”He signed a defender and a midfielder because he was really bad.”To do Richarlison justice, it has to be said that he is someone who has definitely proven what he can do in the Premier League. Before joining Spurs, he excelled at Everton.But over the past 12 months, it just hasn’t worked out.
And that will worry both the striker and Postecoglou.It’s certainly something to think about for Tottenham in the final days of the transfer window. They obviously still have a chance to sign a new striker before the deadline.
So if there’s a good time for Richarlison to get through a tough time, it might be when Tottenham have time to do something about it.
