Tottenham must pay £40m for Gift Orban

Tottenham are looking for a striker after selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer and are betting on Gift Orban.

The 21-year-old arrives after a fruitful season at KAA Gent, but Fulham are also said to be interested.Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke says Tottenham are expected to pay £30m to £40m for Orban, possibly a Belgian transfer record.

The Lilywhites made £100m selling Kane, so they’re not short of cash. Fulham made £50m by selling Aleksandar Mitrovic so they could afford Orban too. The Nigerian striker started his career at Stabaek and recorded 19 goals and seven assists in 24 appearances between 2022-2023.

Orban joined Ghent in January and within a few months he had scored 26 goals and provided two assists in 28 games.Orban’s contract at Ghent lasts for another four years, so the Belgian club don’t have to pay any money up front. Buffalo’s record sale for Jonathan David to LOSC Lille in the 2020/21 season stands at €27m (£23m).

It is therefore expected that Orban will be their most expensive release if it were sold this summer.Tottenham have Richarlison (three goals in 35 games), Heung-min Son (14 goals in 47 games) and Alejo Véliz (11 goals in 24 games) who can take the lead in Kane’s absence, but Orban (20 goals in 22 games). ) outperformed all three players.

Spurs have had a good start to the season with a win and a draw in their opening two games and have scored more goals (4) than all but four Premier League clubs, but Son, Richarlison and Veliz have not still marked.

Orban has already scored six goals in six games for Ghent this season so he is in the form of his life. It’s no wonder Tottenham and Fulham are interested, but time will tell where it ends up.
