Michigan to reportedly add NFL assistant to coaching staff

Sherrone Moore is bringing back another former Michigan staffer to help round out his group of coaches.
Stephen Adegoke, a former graduate assistant under Jim Harbaugh and the safeties coach for the NFL’s Houston Texans, is set to be hired as the Wolverines’ defensive backs coach, according to a report from 247Sports.
Adegoke (pronounced add-uh-go-KAY) was a graduate assistant at Michigan in 2021 who worked with the defensive backs, helping spur a turnaround that led to three straight Big Ten titles and a national championship. He was well-liked inside the building, worked directly with players and learned the scheme under then-defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.
Since then, Adegoke has spent the last two seasons in the NFL: As a quality control coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 2022 and the safeties coach for the Texans, both stops under DeMeco Ryans.
He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Florida in 2019 and ‘20 under Dan Mullen. Adegoke has ties to the SEC, where he played for three seasons at Mississippi State as a safety. He holds a bachelor’s degree from MSU and a master’s degree from Florida.
Adegoke is the latest pending hire for Moore, the first-year head coach promoted on Jan. 26 following Jim Harbaugh’s departure. Don “Wink” Martindale is expected to be named defensive coordinator any day now. Michigan already has its offensive coordinator (Kirk Campbell), special teams coordinator (J.B. Brown) and director of strength and conditioning (Justin Tress) in place, along with an offensive line coach (Grant Newsome) and tight-ends coach (Steve Casula).
Ron Bellamy has been retained as wide-receivers coach.
