Liverpool transfer news amid $49m ‘talks’ as Klopp bid could win Bayern race

Liverpool transfer news: Jürgen Klopp’s side has supposedly been speaking to the agents of a $49m defender while a Bayern Munich race could be won as a bid is touted.

With only one more match before the end of the transfer window, Liverpool still has some work to get done having signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo already this summer.

In just 12 days, Jürgen Klopp and Jörg Schmadtke would ideally be able to add another defender to Liverpool’s squad and also get a fourth midfield signing over the line, but the clock is ticking and it remains to be seen which area of the pitch is the next priority.

There were familiar concerns on show in the 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday and while Mac Allister’s red card should be overturned and no ban should follow, the Argentine, as it stands at least, is facing a three-match suspension.

Today, Liverpool is being linked with both a defender and a holding midfielder, which does seem to make a lot of sense. Klopp’s roster is light in those areas, though Stefan Bajčetić did make a return to the matchday squad this weekend after injury.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, with two highly-rated talents being linked with moves to Anfield.

Liverpool is ‘in talks’ with the agents of Bayer Leverkusen and Ecuador defender Piero Hincapié, Teradeportes, an outlet in his homeland reports, with West Ham United and RB Leipzig also keen on the 21-year-old.

The Bundesliga side supposedly values Hincapié at $49m (£38m/€45m), the report states, with the left-footed defender ticking plenty of boxes that Liverpool is looking for this summer.

Liverpool.com says: Hincapié is very highly rated in Germany and Liverpool definitely needs another center-back, with a left-sided option top of the agenda. Xabi Alonso will not want to lose the player, but there is set to be plenty of interest.

Liverpool is set to submit a bid for PSV holding midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré amid competition for the player, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, though the report claims that Bayern Munich is also keen on the 25-year-old.

Sangaré has a release clause worth $41m (£32m/€37m) written into his contract but no one has been willing to go to that sum for him yet, despite links with various clubs over the course of the last two or three years.

Liverpool.com says: Similar to links with Sofyan Amrabat, if Liverpool really wanted to get a deal done for Sangaré, it probably would have already happened. He was available in January but the Reds opted against a move despite a desperate need for reinforcements.

Having got a deal for Wataru Endo over the line, the next priority should be in the defense for Liverpool with one eye on the future and another on improving the level of depth that the Reds have at the back behind Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté
