Rio Ferdinand says Tottenham 26-year-old won’t be happy with transfer call

The former Manchester United defender has said on his YouTube channel that James Maddison would have been looking forward to playing with Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur and boosting his assist-record.

The 26-year-old England international attacking midfielder joined Tottenham from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.

Kane is one of the best strikers on the planet and is world class.

The England international recently joined Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich from Spurs.

And Ferdinand believes that Maddison would be disappointed to see Kane leave.

Ferdinand said: “I would be absolutely gutted if I was him, if I was James Maddison.

“I am going to top the assist table, I am going to be playing alongside the England captain, and now Harry Kane is on a runner.

“He was probably promised on his way in, I reckon one of his questions was, ‘Are we keeping this squad together? Are we keeping Kane, Son etc?’ And they would have gone, ‘Yeah, yeah yeah’.”

James Maddison is one of the best English playmakers around, and Tottenham Hotspur are a better team with him in it.

Spurs have finally found a suitable replacement for Christian Eriksen.

Maddison provided two assists on his Premier League debut for Tottenham against Brentford in the London derby this past weekend.

The 26-year-old has made 164 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The England international playmaker has scored 43 goals and given 34 assists in those matches.

While Maddison would have relished playing with Kane at club level, the attacking midfielder would understand why the striker had to leave.

Maddison and Kane are England international teammates.
