Report: Tottenham are now favourites to sign 22-year-old Premier League star

The Daily Mail have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have now moved to the front of the queue to sign Nottingham Forest star Brennan Jonhson.

Jonhson had won several admirers with his impressive showing in the Championship during the 2021-22 season and his stock has risen substantially on the back of his impressive debut season in the Premier League last time out.

The 22-year-old, who can operate as a number eight, upfront, behind the striker and out wide, ended last season with 10 goals and three assists to his name (Transfermarkt).

Several sources have reported over the last week that Tottenham are seriously considering a move for Johnson this summer (Ryan Taylor – GiveMeSport).

On Saturday morning, The Athletic revealed the Lilywhites view the Forest star as potential competition for Dejan Kulusevski on the right, with the report adding that Spurs are willing to offer their unwanted players as makeweights in a deal for the youngster.

The Mail have now asserted that Tottenham have now emerged as the favourites to win the race for Johnson before the transfer window closes.

The report adds that Brentford are Spurs’ main competitor in the race for the Wales international’s signature.

Johnson would be an excellent fit as he would be able to play in a number of positions for a Postecoglou side.

However, the 22-year-old is not likely to come cheap, with Forest likely to demand close to £50m for the attacking midfielder, given that he has three years left on his contract at the City Ground.
