Jurgen Klopp teases potential Liverpool signing before window closes

Jurgen Klopp has teased that Liverpool will make a holding midfield signing before the closure of the summer window later this month.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Anfield boss revealed that he wants to bring a new midfielder to replace Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, with Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo linked.

Klopp said when asked if Liverpool will sign a new holding midfielder before the window closes: “It’s clear it’ll be great if we can get something done so we can play with a double 6 or a double pivot, we can do a lot of things.”

Liverpool this week have made bids for the aforementioned Lavia and Caicedo, though as things stand, neither player are set to make the switch to Anfield.

Chelsea are plotting to trump Liverpool’s Premier League record offer for Caicedo whilst there has been little movement on signing Lavia since efforts turned to bringing the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder to Anfield.

Indeed, Klopp might rightly be furious with how his transfer team have gone about this summer’s business, with a new holding midfielder something that should have been sorted weeks ago.

Liverpool have spent well this summer in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, yet it’s clear that Klopp simply needs more if the Reds are to challenge for the title.

Moving for Caicedo was brave and unexpected, yet with Chelsea still expected to sign the midfielder, Liverpool have to do better if they’re to land a new anchorman.

WIth time running out in the window, Liverpool’s transfer team can’t leave Klopp shortchanged having made such an unexpected play this week for Caicedo, with the German manager in need of more.
