Man United to pay multi-million ‘golden goodbye’ for Harry Maguire transfer to West Ham United
Manchester United are ready to give Harry Maguire a “golden goodbye” ahead of his move to West Ham, according to the Daily Star.
The newspaper reported on Friday (page 48, 11 August) that the Red Devils are prepared to give Maguire. 30, a £6million pay-off in order to get him off their wage bill.
It is understood that Maguire earns £180,000-a-week at Old Trafford but his wages at West Ham will drop to £120,000-a-week.
On 9 August, BBC Sport reported that the Irons have agreed to pay around £30million for Maguire, who cost Man United £80million when they signed him from Leicester City in 2019.
Maguire’s been wretched for Man United in the last couple of years and his reward is a multi-million-pound payout and a move to a European champion.
It just goes to show how desperate the Old Trafford giants were to get rid of Maguire, who played just 16 times in the Premier League last season.
We all know that Maguire can be an incredible defender.
Earlier in his career, he did brilliantly at Hull, Sheffield United and Leicester while he even did well to start with at Manchester United.
With England, he’s always been Mr Reliable, playing a major role in Gareth Southgate’s side over the last few years as England reached the World Cup semi-finals and the European Championships final.
If he can replicate that England form with the Hammers, we’ll have made an incredible signing.
If anyone can get the best out of him, it’s David Moyes.
