Mbappe ‘secret’ €160m ‘deal’ revealed as Liverpool, Chelsea target looks to accept Prem ‘solution’
According to reports, PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe is still being pursued by Real Madrid amid claims Liverpool and Chelsea want to sign him on loan.
Mbappe is out of contract in 2024 and he has already made it clear that he has no intention to sign a new contract at PSG.
The forward has been heavily linked with Real Madrid in recent years but they are likely to wait until next summer and get him on a free transfer.
The World Cup winner has been linked with a big-money move to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal this summer, while a move to the Premier League has also been mentioned.
Journalist Ben Jacobs is now reporting that “PSG are convinced a secret pre-deal is in place” between Mbappe and Real Madrid.
“PSG won’t sell Kylian Mbappé to Real Madrid this summer for significantly under €160m. That’s the amount the club believe Mbappé will pocket as a signing-on fee if he joins Real on a free transfer next summer,” Romano told Caught Offside.
“PSG are convinced a secret pre-deal is in place, which is why they believe Mbappé won’t engage in any contract extension talks. PSG have tried to offer a new deal with a specific clause still allowing him to leave next summer.
“Mbappé continues to insist he just wants to stay in Paris and see out his contract (his legal right). Those close to the France international hope once the season starts, he will be picked for sporting reasons and tensions may ease; but Mbappé is currently not integrated with PSG’s main ‘A’ squad – the group the club consider to be part of their plans for the season ahead.”
Jacobs has also indicated that the offer from Al-Hilal was “almost a financial flex”.
“PSG don’t expect €300m, even though that’s what Al-Hilal offered. There is an appreciation this was an inflated offer. Naturally it helps to use as leverage, but not to the point where any suitor would be expected to match it or get anywhere close in order to have a bid accepted,” Romano added.
“The Saudi offer itself is quite intriguing. Al-Hilal sources insist it was genuine, but there is no doubt they bid well above what they needed to in order to succeed.
“One theory is they already knew Mbappé wouldn’t bite, and thus tabled a statement bid. Offering €300m was almost a financial flex.
“PSG would have had no issues conditionally accepting (subject to Mbappé’s green light) much less, hence why their ballpark valuation is basically half what Al-Hilal offered.”
