Liverpool “in talks” to complete “sensational” signing for just £38m due to creative funding

Liverpool could sign Kylian Mbappe this summer although his massive wages are the first issue on a long list that will always put stories like these in doubt regardless of new reports.

In July, the first major link came when the People claimed that the Reds were “in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a sensational loan move for Kylian Mbappe.”

The report suggest that PSG were fuming that Mbappe refused to talk to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal after they accepted a reported world-record bid of £259 million.

Sky Sports then reported that PSG fear they could lose him for free to Real Madrid next summer.

Liverpool were alleged to have plans to offer Mbappe a one-year loan move where they would receive a loan fee and remove the World Cup winner’s exorbitant salary from PSG’s wage bill.

Mbappe earns a mind-boggling £650,000 per week in Paris or £38 million per year. Which would be the bill Liverpool would have to pay the attacker to have him at Anfield for a year.

The interesting twist in this story is that Liverpool are ready to discuss a loan with an obligation to sign him in 2024, according to Football Insider, with “sponsors” reportedly willing to contribute to a portion of Mbappe’s massive salary.

Apparently, he’s a “huge admirer” of Liverpool and wants a “sensational season-long loan” to Anfield before moving on to Real Madrid.

Of course, when asked about reported interest in Mbappe by Sky Germany, Jurgen Klopp claimed Liverpool “laugh” about these links when they surface.

The 56-year-old said: “We laugh about it. I can say that I think he’s a really good player but the financial conditions don’t suit us at all. I wouldn’t like to ruin the story now… but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it.

“It’s possible that someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me… that hasn’t happened in the eight years that I’ve been here. That would be the first time.”

How does Mbappe fit into Liverpool’s transfer plan for this summer and the next few years?

A transfer that would cost Liverpool £33.8million, plus whatever loan fee PSG would demand, with zero long-term gain is not likely to be a course of action that FSG would take.

Not only does this dwarf the enormous £350,000 Mohamed Salah earns, it would catapult the 24-year-old to the top of the Premier League Top Earner’s list.

It hardly feels like a Liverpool-esque signing even if it would be the most exciting loan move of all-time.

Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, it’s been a long time since links to Mbappe were realistic.

It’s undoubtedly a transfer Klopp would love as very few managers would argue with having a forward with 51 goal contributions in 2022/23.

Mbappe has always been destined for a move to Real Madrid and recent reports from Spain even suggest his entourage may be looking at property in Madrid.
