Newly-appointed West Ham director of football Tim Steidten has chosen to veto David Moyes’ chosen transfer targets due to a lack of resale value, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (4 August) that tension between the pair is behind the lack of senior signings at the London Stadium with the new campaign just a week away.
It is believed Moyes wants to bring British trio Harry Maguire, James Ward-Prowse and Scott McTominay to West Ham this summer after selling captain Declan Rice to Arsenal.
However, Steidten is keen to move for younger players with more room to grow and potential to provide resale value to the Irons in the coming years.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Ajax’s Edson Alvarez, 25, and Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana, 24, are on the German’s wishlist.
Stiedten, who formerly oversaw transfer activity at Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen, only took the director of football role at the London Stadium in July.
Alvarez made 44 appearances across all competitions last term for Ajax, notching four goals and three assists.
The Mexico international, who has played at two World Cups, is under contract for two more years after penning his last extension in October 2021.
Meanwhile, Fofana is under contract for less than 12 months at Monaco.
He notched two goals and two assists in 47 appearances across all competitions last term.
Maguire and McTominay are out of favour under Erik ten Hag at Man United, while Ward-Prowse is ever-present for Southampton – who suffered relegation to the Championship last term.
