Report: Liverpool now preparing transfer offer to sign £173m player, Chelsea also want him

Liverpool are reportedly preparing an offer to sign Kylian Mbappe, with PSG open to selling the French superstar this summer.

According to AS, the Reds are one of three clubs interested in the 24-year-old attacker, with Chelsea and Al-Hilal also readying bids of their own to sign Mbappe, who PSG want to sell this window for around €200m (£173m).

News broke this week that PSG had made the decision to sell Mbappe after weeks of speculation surrounding the forward, who is still most likely to end up at Real Madrid in the next 12 months.

As a result, Liverpool are now reportedly ready to move for Mbappe, with an offer of £173m almost £100m more than the Reds’ current transfer record still held by defender Virgil van Dijk.

Indeed, signing Mbappe without UEFA Champions League revenue feels like quite a stretch for Liverpool, with the same logic applying to Chelsea. Meaning that the Frenchman’s future could be a shootout between Madrid and Al-Hilal.

However, given that Mbappe is arguably the best player in the world in this moment in time and a move to Spain’s biggest club has been teased for what feels like forever, the striker seemingly has one realistic destination this summer,

Mbappe to Liverpool still remains in the realm of fantasy

Any club not named Madrid making an attempt to sign Mbappe is quite ambitious, to say the least, and this will see both Liverpool and Chelsea fail to land the French superstar this summer.

We all know that Mbappe’s heart is already in Madrid, with a move to La Liga now seemingly a given if PSG and Real can find an agreement over a fee, something that could be a struggle for the Spanish giants.

As for Liverpool, though, signing Mbappe could always remain a fantasy, with this summer clearly the wrong time for the Reds to make a club-record move for French superstar.
