Newcastle United’s ‘Future Messi’ Reveals Status of Future Amid Transfer Uncertainty.
Newcastle United’s young talent Yankuba Minteh remains uncertain about his destination for next season. The 19-year-old, often compared to Lionel Messi by fans and known as the “Gambian Lionel Messi,” had an impressive loan spell at Feyenoord. Newcastle initially paid £7 million for Minteh before loaning him out to gain first-team experience in the Eredivisie. After a slow start, Minteh excelled in the latter half of the season, contributing to 17 goals and helping Feyenoord secure a second-place finish and the Dutch Cup in April. His performance has prompted Newcastle fans to advocate for his inclusion in the Premier League squad next season, a goal Minteh has expressed he aspires to achieve.
“Ultimately, my goal is to play in the Premier League,” Minteh stated. “Newcastle United has shown great confidence in me. I’m unsure about my future plans at this point, including any potential loan moves, but I’ll find out in due time. I’m confident that I will eventually play in the Premier League for Newcastle United.”
The Gambian international recently provided an update on his future, though it remains unclear. Minteh admitted he is still uncertain whether he will be with Newcastle or on another loan for the 2024-25 season.
“Right now, I don’t know what will happen,” he told Voetbal International. “The way the supporters treat me is very special, but I’m not sure yet whether I will stay or leave. We’ll see what the future holds.”
