REINSTATED BRYANT Martavis Bryant is back on the NFL circuit and it hasn’t taken him long to find a potential suitor: per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Cowboys are set to host the former Pittsburgh Steeler for a workout on Tuesday, shortly after he was reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell after numerous violations of the league’s substance abuse policy.

Bryant, 31, has not played in the NFL since a 2018 tour with the Oakland Raiders. He is best-known for his three-season tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers, which saw him put up 1,917 yards and 17 touchdowns between 2014 and 2017. Since his latest suspension proved indefinite, Bryant has lingered in several other professional leagues, including the CFL, XFL, and FCF.

NOV 2 JAYLON SMITH FINDS NEW HOME Per his agent Doug Hendrickson, former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith has signed with the Las Vegas Raiders’ 53-man roster. Smith will join a Las Vegas group now coached by former linebacker Antonio Pierce, who takes over as interim head coach after the firing of Josh McDaniels.

Smith, 28, was the Cowboys’ second-round pick in 2016 out of Notre Dame. He played parts of five seasons in Dallas after making his way back from a devastating knee injury suffered in his final collegiate game. He earned Pro Bowl honors after the 2019 season and put up 20 tackles for a loss and six forced fumbles during his Dallas career.

Prior to the Raiders’ call, Smith had been stationed on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad. His most recent regular season action came with the New York Giants in 2022.

We will disagree with the vibe from the Cowboys; “some kind of move” is not at all the mindset. But “winning a trade”? That is a smarter goal.

OCT 26 GRASS AT AT&T STADIUM? Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has indicated he’s open to installing a system to grow grass at AT&T Stadium. But don’t get too excited, NFL fans, because it’s not for the Cowboys.

The stadium – which is owned and operated by Jones – will host FIFA World Cup matches in 2026, including potentially the final match of the series. But … the governing body of international soccer – *ahem* … football … – wants natural grass to play on.

“We are looking at the pitch conversion and how that conversion is going to be done to make it a natural grass surface that will actually survive the duration of the tournament, which is a huge challenge,” said Heimo Schirgi, FIFA chief operating officer.

And Jones and the Cowboys might be willing to oblige.

“For the first time ever, we will have a system to grow the grass during the time period of the event, and that is very different from how we did it when had other events,” Cowboys executive V.P. of business operations Chad Estis said. “We have a whole team working alongside FIFA. We are confident that we will have a very good field for the event.”

It’s not yet a done deal, as Estis indicated, “We’re still actually piecing together total cost.”
