Liverpool ready to try and sign £100m midfielder if they lose both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho

Liverpool will join the race to sign Moises Caicedo if they lose both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho this summer.

It’s all going on at Liverpool at the moment. They looked to be chugging along nicely with their transfer business until the bombshells dropped this week that they could lose Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabian sides.

That would clearly mean that the Reds need to add a little more to their midfield for next season. And now, according to TalkSPORT, they may turn to Caicedo to do that.

They claim that the Reds will ‘consider’ joining the race for the Brighton man should Henderson and Fabinho depart.

Chelsea are also reportedly in the running, and are seen as the current favourites to land Caicedo.

It’s going to cost a fair whack for them to do so, though. TalkSPORT report that Brighton value the Ecuadorian at a whopping £100m.

If Henderson and Fabinho both leave Liverpool, there’s little question that they need to go bigger than they’re currently planning in the market.

Up until this week, Romeo Lavia had looked like being the Reds primary – and pretty much only – target. The Belgian would still be a good addition, but he isn’t enough to plug a gap this big.

He’s also only 19. With no natural replacement for Fabinho currently at the club, Lavia would perhaps be taking on too much too soon.

In Caicedo’s case, he looks more than ready to do that. Capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, but also further up the pitch too, many supporters see him as being the absolute ideal answer this summer.

Unfortunately though, you have to pay for that. And if the price-tag does end up being anything like the £100m quoted, you just can’t see Liverpool getting involved.

With Chelsea still very much around, it’s hard to see how that price gets lowered right now. Brighton already lost a decent chunk of money to Liverpool on the sale of Alexis Mac Allister. It’s reasonable to think that they’ll try and recoup that lost revenue by inflating Caicedo’s price instead.

So, we’d be wary of reading too much into this. But Liverpool are clearly fans of the Ecuador international. It could be now getting into ‘desperate times’ territory for the Reds. They’ll have to meet that with desperate measures. £100m is a lot, but in their situation, Caicedo could be worth it.
