Liverpool Transfer Hijacked, With Prem Rival ‘one Step Away’ From Snatching Club-record Coup

Crystal Palace have lodged a club-record bid to sign a Liverpool-linked star who would prefer a move to Anfield, per reports.
While midfield additions are taking centre stage at present, Liverpool are understood to be exploring options in other positions. Indeed, Fabrizio Romano previously reported signings at centre-half and right-back are in their sights.
Regarding the centre-back chase, the Reds have been heavily linked with Torino and Netherlands defender, Perr Schuurs.
Tuttosport claimed the 23-year-old has been installed by Jurgen Klopp as his primary defensive target.
But according to DAZN Italia reporter, Orazio Accomando, it’s Crystal Palace who have moved quickly and decisively.
Taking to Twitter, Accomando claimed Schuurs is “one step away” from joining Palace who have tabled a €35m (approx. £29.8m) bid. Palace’s current record buy remains the £27m paid to sign Christian Benteke from Liverpool back in 2016.
A four-year contract is on offer and if accepted, speculation one of the exit-linked Marc Guehi or Joachim Andersen could depart will swell.
While Palace’s bid will no doubt ring alarm bells at Anfield, there may be a ray of hope in the event Liverpool still intend to thunder in with a bid of their own.
Indeed, Tuesday’s edition of Tuttosport (as cited by Sport Witness), acknowledges Schuurs favours a move to England ahead of moving within Italy to Napoli, for example.
However, it’s Liverpool specifically that the Dutchman wants, with the report adding the ‘appeal’ of linking up with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds is ‘much higher’ than any other English side.
It’s then suggested Torino could offer Liverpool a slight discount on the €35m asking price if it helps Schuurs complete his preferred move.
However, that still rests on Liverpool acting on their interest and fending off Crystal Palace’s hijack attempt.
If Liverpool fail to act at a time when they’re still chasing one more midfielder, a move to Selhurst Park could be in Schuurs’ future.
