Liverpool player could now leave this summer after ‘shambolic’ season

Joe Gomez could reportedly leave Liverpool this summer, with the defender coming off one of his hardest seasons yet at Anfield.

According to the Daily Mail, the 25-year-old might join the likes of Caoimhin Kelleher in seeking a move from Merseyside this window, with Gomez finding himself as something of a scapegoat for supporters and pundits when featuring for Liverpool in some results.

Jamie Carragher infamously took to Twitter to label Gomez as ‘shambolic’ after a 3-0 loss in February to Wolves. And now, there’s a chance that the former Charlton Athletic star could depart the Premier League giants for a new chapter in his career.

With Liverpool on the hunt for a new defender this summer, Gomez leaving could open a crucial void in the squad for Jurgen Klopp to splash the cash on a replacement, one that could elevate the quality in depth at the back heading into a UEFA Europa League campaign.

Indeed, Gomez leaving Liverpool has been touted for some time. Yet this update feels like an almost definitive nail in the coffin for the centre-back’s time on Merseyside, with this summer the ideal time for the defender to leave for the betterment of his career.

Gomez leaving Liverpool simply has to happen this summer

Gomez’s 2022/23 campaign could not have gone any worse, with the defender failing to hit any sort of form and being under constant scrutiny from fans and Liverpool legends such as Carragher.

And as a result, the defender should look to move on this summer.

As we know, Gomez has the potential to become a top-quality centre-back if given the right conditions to thrive. However, with Liverpool looking to evolve, the defender fears being left behind. Meaning a transfer could be for the best in the coming weeks.
