Liverpool expressed interest in £13m Brazilian before Chelsea agreed deal
Liverpool reportedly expressed an interest in signing Santos teenager Angelo Gabriel before Chelsea agreed a £13m deal to sign the Brazilian.
According to 90min, the Reds were one of three Premier League teams interested in signing the forward. However, Chelsea have this week completed a transfer for Angelo that will see the wonderkid head to west London this summer.
As per the report, Angelo has already played over 100 games for Santos and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents in all of Brazil, with Liverpool keeping tabs on the attacker for some time before Chelsea came in with an offer to secure the teenager’s signature.
Whilst losing out on Angelo might seem like a blow for Liverpool, missing out on the youngster to Chelsea is perhaps no real surprise given that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are on a one-team crusade to sign seemingly every wonderkid beyond England’s shores.
Indeed, the Blues have spent big on youth talent since Todd Boehly’s acquisition of the club last year. And signing Angelo is the latest what is now becoming a trend for Chelsea, something Liverpool simply can’t compete with given their finances and policy of youth.
Liverpool shouldn’t fear Chelsea signing Angelo
Chelsea’s spending has now become infamous in this messy new era for the Stamford Bridge side. And because of what has happened so far, Liverpool shouldn’t fear just yet that the Blues have once again pipped them to one of the most exciting talents in South America.
As we know, the chances of Angelo actually making it at Chelsea are slim. And for Liverpool, the Reds only would have moved for the player had they thought the Brazilian had a real shot at breaking into the first-team in the ears to come under Jurgen Klopp.
