Rodrigo Bentancur fires Tottenham message after Crystal Palace win.

Rodrigo Bentancur returned to action for Tottenham in the 2-1 win against Crystal Palace – his first appearance since suffering a cruciate ligament injury in February earlier this year. The Uruguay international has been a key player for Spurs since joining the club from Juventus.

Bentancur missed a total of 28 games following his knee injury earlier this year but he is now fully fit and ready to reclaim a starting spot in the starting XI. It’s clear how highly-rated he is in the squad judging from the post-match scenes which saw Yves Bissouma urge Bentancur to receive plenty of praise and support from the travelling Spurs fans at Selhurst Park.

The 26-year-old bowed to the fans before being mobbed by his teammates once more, but Ange Postecoglou may be the most pleased to see Bentancur return from injury. Speaking after the game, the Tottenham boss said: “All footballers feel for players like Rodrigo.

“He had such a good start to his Tottenham career and then it’s hard when you’re doing rehab on your own and you just want to be part of the group. He’s been busting my door down for weeks to train with the group and right behind him has been the medical team saying that’s not going to happen.

“I am really pleased to get him out there. He has looked good in training and it’s a bonus for me because I haven’t had to use him yet. It just adds to our depth and I am really pleased for him and so are the guys.”

Now, Bentancur has thanked his partner, Melany La Blanca, and Tottenham fans for their support during his rehabilitation and recovery as he now looks ahead to fighting for a place in Postecoglou’s team. In a post on Instagram after the win against Crystal Palace, the Uruguay international wrote: “Not crazy, they are my engine and without you I wouldn’t be here today!

“They are the loves of my life and thank you for being there in every minute and in the good and the bad! We’re back and stronger than ever!”
