There’s something ‘really confused’ going on with £15m reported Liverpool target – Romano
Reported Liverpool target Arda Guler is in the middle of a ‘really confused’ transfer saga.
Guler has been linked with a move to Anfield this summer, as plenty of top teams circle around the Fenerbahce wonderkid. But according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 18-year-old’s situation is becoming less clear by the day.
“Barcelona could be interested [in Guler] but for sure Fenerbahce are still fighting to keep the player at the club at least for one more season – but it’s not easy,” he wrote for CaughtOffside today.
“I’m not in the position to mention any favourite club at the moment as there’s really confused situation around the player.
“Things are not clear in terms of his camp and so… it’s better to wait for more concrete news on this player. We have 50 reports per day for 50 different teams, but nothing is advanced yet.”
Guler attracting interest from top clubs
As we’ve seen in the past, if a situation around a player is anything but clear, Liverpool may be minded to stay away.
One of the Reds’ key factors around making signings is that the player in question wants Liverpool and Liverpool only. They’re not usually interested in getting into tugs of war with other clubs.
In Guler’s case, Romano’s assertion that ’50 clubs’ are following him is obviously an exaggeration. But he’s clearly very highly sought after.
There’s good reason for that, too. It isn’t often you can find a player of such burgeoning ability on the market for as little as £15m.
That looks like being the case with Guler, though. The 18-year-old reportedly has a release clause that makes him very get-able for any of Europe’s top clubs.
As anyone who watched him bend in a worldie for Turkey against Wales last week will attest, Guler is an absolute bargain at that price.
Consequently, his situation may remain a little messy as clubs jostle to sign him. We wouldn’t usually back Liverpool to enter a race like that, but Guler looks like he could be worth it. So, you just never know.
