Alencia would be more than happy to sell Giorgi Mamardashvili to Tottenham Hotspur – but it looks like it won’t happen.
Tottenham Hotspur target Giorgi Mamardashvili will be allowed to leave Valencia this summer as they seek to raise funds.
That is according to Plaza Deportiva, who report that Valencia need to sell players this summer to sign players of their own.
Goalkeeper Mamardashvili is one player who could be sold to raise funds, with midfielder Yunus Musah another less appealing option for Valencia to sell.
The Georgian is the top option for Valencia, seemingly believing that they can comfortably replace him should he move on.
It’s noted that Mamardashvili has a release clause worth €100million (£86million) but Valencia will sell for around €20million to €25million (£17.2million to £21.5million).
Tottenham were highlighted as a potential destination with Valencia hoping to cash in.
Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week that Tottenham had started talks to sign Mamardashvili.
Spurs were viewing him as an alternative target to David Raya, but it looks like Valencia will miss out on a windfall.
Tottenham seem to want Guglielmo Vicario over Giorgi Mamardashvili
Tottenham may well like Mamardashvili but he doesn’t appear to be their top target – even with Raya potentially out of the picture.
The Daily Mail report that Tottenham have made an approach to sign Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
It’s stated that Ange Postecoglou wants to get Vicario signed up and Tottenham are now close to a deal.
Fabrizio Romano even adds that Vicario is heading to London soon and will sign a deal until 2028.
Tottenham will pay €19million (£16.3million) to sign Vicario, striking a cheaper deal than the one Valencia wanted for Mamardashvili – and Spurs will hope that the Italian can be their goalkeeper for years to come.
This development is a blow for Valencia, but other Premier League clubs appear to be keen on the giant 6ft 6in goalkeeper and a big exit could still materialise.
