Liverpool told they must pay €30m to land Man City target who has already said ‘yes’ to Klopp
Premier League side Liverpool must fork out €30m to land Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven this summer, according to reports.
The Reds are looking for a new centre-back this summer with Jurgen Klopp hoping to improve his back-up options for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Following a disappointing first two thirds of the Premier League season, Liverpool managed to go on a good run towards the end of the campaign, thanks to a few tweaks to Klopp’s system.
Liverpool thrived with Trent Alexander-Arnold operating in a hybrid role and Klopp wants a new left-sided centre-back to improve the system further.
Van de Ven has emerged as a target for Liverpool and Manchester City with a report last week claiming the Dutchman has said ‘yes’ to joining Klopp at Anfield.
The report even went as far to say that the Reds had ‘beat’ the Citizens despite Pep Guardiola’s side also ‘immersed in the auction’ for the defender.
And now German outlet WAZ has been interviewing Van de Ven’s agent, Jose Fortes Rodriguez, after his displays have seen him attract interest from all over Europe.
The report claims that ‘he won’t go for less than €30m’ this summer and they insist there have been no official bids for the Netherlands under-21 international.
Liverpool have been interested in Van de Ben ‘for some time’ and his agent claims he would be “stupid to say now that he will definitely stay in Wolfsburg”.
“Micky has played a fantastic season. There are many clubs that are interested,” Rodriguez said.
“It would be stupid to say now that he will definitely stay in Wolfsburg. Anything can happen this summer.
“A player like Micky, who has developed so well – the calls from the clubs come automatically. I am asked: What is the situation? Do we have a chance?
“As I said, anything can happen this summer. It could be that he leaves. But if the right club doesn’t come along, why shouldn’t Micky stay in Wolfsburg.”
Those quotes from his agent after the Wolfsburg centre-back flirted with interest from Liverpool last week.
“Of course, there are a lot of people who draw lines. It’s true that the director [Schmadtke] went there and I know that Liverpool followed me before. But at the moment I don’t know anything,” Van de Ven told Voetbal International.
“Do I think Liverpool is a nice club? Naturally!”
Van De Ven added: “If a nice club comes along that has a clear plan with me, then I could consider taking a step.
“Then you are open to that in that sense. There is a chance that after this summer I will just play in the Bundesliga, but there is also a chance that I will make a transfer. We will see. Let’s finish this season first.”
