Aston Villa’s plans to rebuild Villa Park have been suspended due to major concerns,
Aston Villa’s plans to renovate their North Stand are currently on hold due to transport concerns.
The plan includes pedestrianising part of Witton Lane and adding an all-new multi-purpose building – Villa Live – which will include a club shop, museum, bars and eateries.
However, plans have been put on hold due to concerns surrounding Witton railway station, which was labelled “not fit for purpose” due to the lack of trains and carriages put on for fans on matchdays. The West Midlands Combined Authority has funded the £30million redevelopment of Perry Barr railway station ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
Villa Park is working to improve travel to, from, and around the stadium on match days.
A transport strategy will be submitted as part of the planning application and will be reviewed at regular intervals.
Construction work will only start once plans are in place to improve Witton station. Mayor Mr Street wants more people to come via public transport as the ground gets bigger.
Villa Park is one of ten arenas in the UK and Ireland’s bid to host the UEFA European Championships in 2028.
If the bid is successful, Birmingham City Council leader John Cotton believes it will boost the local economy by £117 million.
If the bid is successful, tens of thousands of visitors will come to Birmingham as they host matches at the tournament. An early estimate of the impact of being a host city is £117.1 million.
